Procrastination

Well, I finally finished up the baby quilt. Only took a month of procrastinating and about 30 minutes or so of sewing. Yeah, I'm cool like that.

Although looking at the pics now, I'm thinking that maybe it needs a few loose zigzags mixed in. Your vote?

During this last month, I've also been working on cleaning my sewing room. I've decided that it's time to do some serious downsizing. I waste so much time moving stuff back and forth between the sewing room and the guest bedroom whenever we have company, so it's time to finally make it all fit in the sewing room. No really, I mean it this time.

So this is how my sewing room usually looks. It has been worse. I had to do some major cleaning and organizing to get to my sewing table to finish the quilt. So now, lemme show you the guest bedroom. This is all the crap I have to drag into the sewing room whenever we have company (thereby rendering the sewing room useless for actual work).

My pibble Maggie apparently insists on photo bombing. You would not believe how many I found her in during this photo shoot! She's only slightly underfoot. So there you have it. You can see there is so much potential in my sewing room, but I am just way to disorganized to really reach it. My shame laid out there for all to see! All the constant rearranging is a major time waster, so I'm really hoping to get a handle on it soon. Can you imagine how much sewing I could get done in that amount of time?

I'll leave you one last pic of Maggie. Busted!

My (Im)Perfection

So I've been procrastinating on really getting this blog going. Because you see, I had all these grand plans. Plans that involved me getting my shiz together and cleaning my sewing room (and overflow) and posting all these incredible pics of my sanctuary (as I will henceforth occasionally refer to the sewing room) that would make you all ooh and aah and be green with envy. But the sad truth is that unless it's absolutely necessary, I do not clean. I am too lazy to be organized. And my sewing room is in a constant state of chaos. (Sanctuary, my ass, right?)

After that, I'd start regularly posting pics of all the wonderful projects I'd complete. I'd look very productive, since I could start out by finishing up my many WIPs (you'd never have to know that the reason I finished so fast was because they've all been sitting around in various stages of not-done).

But then, I was thinking about it. I don't like blogs of perfection. I like blogs that are real. I don't want to pretend to be perfect (that is so far from the truth anyway, honey). Blogs about lives that are messy always make me feel so much better than blogs that are about all the pretty stuff. They give me permission to embrace the imperfection and craziness that is life. So if my mess can do that for you, then I consider that to be quite awesome.

So to start off this imperfect party, let me just share about my recent finish. I was so proud of myself. I was on a roll, knocking off some WIPs thanks to some new found motivation. And this little baby quilt was D-O-N-E baby! Awesome possum. Except...

Wha...? Not awesome. So I pouted. And thought about how this was gonna ruin my perfect quilt. But mainly that I was annoyed that I still cannot mark this off the list as done. So I sat this morning, lamenting to my better half about how annoying it was, only to discover...

So after thinking that making a quilt-as-you go baby quilt from a jelly roll would be super quick and easy, I am now forced to face the fact that I am apparently a little too sloppy to pull off this method well. Or, well, maybe I just need to practice more (and apparently check underneath my seam allowance to make sure I caught enough of the bottom fabric).

But, now I am having visions of randomly zig-zagging on the seams of the quilt, in a quirky and character-adding (this is what I'm telling myself) manner that will make the finished project oh-so-much-better.

So stay tuned for the finished project (and some mildly humiliating photos of my messy sanctuary - more on my attempt to "keep it real").

Welcome!

So let's get things started around here. I am totally addicted to pretty fabric. I love my stash (which is only slightly getting out of control around here), but no matter how many little lovelies I add to it, there's always so much more out there that I wish I had. I like to joke that I don't sew, I collect fabric, since I am waaaaay better at the shopping and planning phase than I am at the actual completion phase. So on that note, here's my latest addition to the stash.

A fat quarter bundle of Sew Stitchy by Aneela Hoey.  This fabric is so gorgeous in person! I think it'll be a perfect addition to my sewing room.

Now that I've got this blog started finally, I'll have to try my best to be a little more productive so I have more to share with you. I may just have to root through my past projects and see if I can put together a best hits post or two.

So anyway, welcome! Can't wait to share some of my stuff with you, and hope to hear from you too!
